  1. I got an old HP Compaq 6820s from my grandparents when I bought them a new laptop for Christmas. It is not too bad and I have been messing around with it a bit. Its already upgraded to the maximum amount of ram (4gb) and I swapped in a T9300 from the older T7250. I am wanting to mess around with it a bit more and I understand that I can go a little bit further but am wonering how far in retrospect to the CPU. I think I can go up to a t9500 but what about a t9900? Also the socket it is on is really similar to a ton of other older sockets and I was wondering what else could go in there. I ordered a small SSD to put in it and I am gonna see what this thing will do. If anyone knows anything about these old systems please let me know.
  2. I'm trying to buy a monitor, but the one I found online does not include a power cable. Does it use the 3 prong power cable as shown in the picture? I researched but I couldn't find out which one it uses so I'm turning to you guys. The model number that was listed is Hp Compaq L220W. Thanks.
  3. Hello LTT gurus, Hey fellas need help on choosing perfect Windows for my HP Compaq 510, currently rocking Windows 7 64 bit, specs as follows, Processor: C2D (dunno the exact the model) Ram: 4 gigs ddr2 Which will be the perfect OS for this machine, will be using this for light usage like web browsing etc, should I stay with Windows 7 64 bit or should I use Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, which will be optimal for this old hardware, currently I've a tight budget, so cannot buy a new machine, when I visited HP Compaq 510's driver page which had no drivers for Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 but in the following website it has drivers for both Windows 8.1 & 10 too, is this site can be trusted, coz when I did a lil research I found out that, Windows 8.1 is lighter when compared to Windows 7, if that's true, I'll try Windows 8.1, otherwise should I stick with current Windows 7 itself. The website which has Compaq 510's Windows 8 and 10 drivers Just need a suggestion which will go easy on my hardware, awaiting reply from you folks, ty in advance. Thanks and regards, Yash

  9. Hello there, recently I just got a computer from a friend of mine to be fixed. However, among the many laptops and desktops I've fixed, this is proving to be a rather strange one.It is a Compaq Presario CQ42-304AU, full specification and details of it can be found here : https://support.hp.com/my-en/document/c02520867Prior to receiving the laptop, my friend had told me it has issues where it cannot boot up, including the bios. When I got my hands on it, the error code based on the blinking lights of the Caps Lock key told me that it was CPU error. Opened it up, re-seated the CPU, applied fresh thermal paste while I'm at it and it still didn't work. I tried re-seating the CPU about 5 times but to no avail. However, while I was re-seating the CPU again and again, one of the times it actually booted into the bios. Told me no boot device as I have removed the HDD. Turned it off, placed the hard drive in and nope. Didn't boot anymore ever since. So my question is this. Is it truly the CPU issue as the computer says so? I have many experiences where when it cannot boot into the bios at all, the main causes are typically the motherboard; not the CPU. Therefore I was wondering, could it be the motherboard socket issue; ie, bad connection? An advice to whether should I replace the CPU or Motherboard would be nice.Things that I have done:-Re-seating and cleaning RAM-Re-seating the CPU about 5 times-Removed the battery and direct from power

  11. I found an old Compaq PC and am wondering if it would even be possible to upgrade it or worth it. I'd love to be able to just throw some cheap parts into it and have a secondary PC to play low end games on. If not, is anything worth selling? Thanks for any help! 12. Hello, I am looking to upgrade my laptop's CPU in order to get better multitasking and overall performance from it, at least until I purchase a new daily driver. I have a Compaq Presario CQ60-615DX and it comes with an Intel Celeron Processor 900 (1M Cache, 2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB). I am looking to upgrade that CPU to an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (6M Cache, 2.50 GHz, 800 MHz FSB), which seems to be the best option after reading up on a few forums of people trying to do the same thing. The CPU's share sockets (PGA478) and TPD (35w), other than that I'm not sure what else I should be looking for in terms of compatibility. I want to keep a budget of $50.00 for this upgrade, not much higher than that. I am an online college student who enjoys using Office 365 and browsing the web, usually with multiple tabs open. I am running Windows 10 Home on this little guy, and its not bad at all, I just want to see if I can boost its performance a bit. I have given a lot of thought to just going out a buying a new or refurbished midrange laptop, but as I am currently saving for my wedding right now I'm trying to make that the last possible option. Here are some CPU-Z screenshots to help: CPU Caches Motherboard So my questions are: Do you guys think this upgrade would work and give me a bit more multitasking power (Excel, Word, Outlook, Multiple Tabs/Browsers open etc.)? Am I missing anything that might make my CPU choice incompatible or a bad idea? Is there a better CPU option that I am not aware of? Should I just say thank you and goodbye to my old friend, and get a new laptop? Any and all advice and or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, it is my first time upgrading a CPU so I may be ignorant of some aspects of the process. Thank you all, in advance. Note* The RAM (2GB) and HDD have already been upgraded to 4GB and a SanDisk SSD

  16. I have a family member with a HP Compaq Presario CQ43 which has an AMD E300 1.30-GHz processor, 2gb ram, a 240gb ssd with paging and Windows 7 Home Basic 64-bit. Should I upgrade it to Windows 10 and would it lose performance?
  17. Hey guys. I was wondering, for anybody who has experience with the HP Compaq Pro 6000 series, is it possible to transfer a motherboard from a slim HP compaq case to the mini tower version in the same series - are the motherboards in business model PCs the same for slim and tower version? I'm aware that pre built computers use different IO connections than typical cases you buy, but I wasn't sure if the IO connections on these two were identical.
  18. I have an old laptop I am currently tinkering with and would like to mod the bios so that I can do more advance things with it. At the minimum I'd like to reallocate memory to the graphics processor but would also like to see what else there is to tinker with. If anybody would be willing to give me a step by step tutorial(or direct me to one) that would be great.
  19. Does anybody know how much of a performance improvement this would give me if I went from the first to the second? Ive seen some benchmarks saying decent improvement to some saying almost none. Mind you this is for a laptop I've been tinkering around with not daily driver I should upgrade. It's for a compaq presario cq56.
  20. Hi, I have old business class hp compaq dc7700p small form factor computer. Link here I want to upgrade this computer; change the motherboard, RAM and CPU without buying a new case. The current motherboard does not support a lot better than what I actually have in it right now. The current motherboard is here. I want to change motherboard but don't know what sizes of motherboard will fit in the case. Will I need to change the case or is there a motherboard that I can upgrade to? Thanks
  21. Hey there. A friend of mine is looking to upgrade his (what seems to be a) prebuilt computer from Compaq/HP so he can make his way more towards gaming. I'm not really too sure what to go for, but due to his CPU-intensive gaming habits, I'd say go for a new processor; yet I'm not too sure if that's the cheapest. Specifications: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03513243 DXDIAG/WEI: http://imgur.com/5Selub9,4OuW0Of,z3rBbxB,EQ2vdzQ,Wkx7VMK What would you suggest?
  22. Compaq Laptop Refreshing Your PC

My Compaq CQ58 laptop booted perfectly fine yesterday, I got a windows update and installed it *This is not the windows 10 update* rebooted the laptop, and then it came up with the error message: "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" NB:The website says this should last up to 30 minutes I left it overnight to sort itself out, woke up this morning and it's still stuck on that screen, the loading bar is still functional so the computer hadn't frozen. After doing everything microsoft suggested, I decided to boot my laptop into the startup menu and load the compaq help thing by pressing f11. I chose the 'Refresh your PC' option, and left it running while I continued doing other things. I came back and noticed it was on 88%, left it again, and when I came back maybe 1 hour later, it's still stuck on 88%. Again, the loading bar is still moving, the fans are spinning, keyboard lights are working, but it's not moved. It's still on 88% and it's been over 2 hours. I don't want to reset the PC while it's deleting files, but there isn't anything on the HDD that could've taken so long to delete. I can't find any articles online about the 'refresh your PC' service so I decided to come here for help.
  23. Monitor screen glitching

Hello, My monitor has these weird white, fuzzy lines that keep appearing and disappearing in horizontal lines all down my screen. These lines are only noticeable on dark screens. It never used to do this and I haven't changed anything that would cause a problem. I have tried 2 different video cards and 2 different cables with the same result. I have no idea what could be causing this and how to fix it. Monitor: Compaq Q2159 Connection: VGA Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60hz
  24. Dead cpu? Compaq CQ61-417SA

Hey, looking for some advice on my laptop. I have a CQ61-417SA which had a dead graphics chip on the motherboard (no display working, fans powered on, caps lock/num lock flashing) so I ordered a new motherboard, took the cpu out and cleaned the old thermal paste away. New motherboard arrived a week later so I put it into the laptop, applied new thermal paste and tried to power on however now all that happens is the power indicator LED and wifi indicator LED turns on for a second then turns off. No fans, no display, no other LED's. The charging LED indicator comes on when the battery is plugged in which makes me think its not an issue with the power. Tried reverting back to the old motherboard and am now having this exact same issue on that old one aswell. This makes me think that somewhere between me taking the cpu (AMD Athlon II M320) out of the old motherboard and it going into the new one it got damaged. Tried the RAM sticks in multiple different configurations to see if that would make a difference, tried holding down the power button to discharge and electricity in it, nothing seems to be working. Am I missing anything else that it could be or does it look like I will need to get a new cpu aswell? Thanks in advance for any guidance
