  1. 3TB Hard drive showing as 2TB+1TB

Ever since I have reinstalled windows 10 on my desktop my 3TB hard drive is showing up as two disks one which is 2TB while the other one is the amount that is left of the 3 terabytes I have installed the 3TB+ unlocker from Asrock but that doesn't seem to fix the problem is there any way to fix this without using another OS to make the Drive partitions Note: the 746.52gb at the end of the first disk is Unusable as it is showing as a different Disk Specs CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @3.30GHz Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty X99M Killer LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Water 3.0 Pro (CLW0223) Water/Liquid CPU Cooler 120MM GPU: ASUS Republic of Gamers Strix GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Ram: G.SKILL Value 16GB (4 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2133 Case: Silverstone Tek Micro-ATX/DTX/Mini-ITX Aluminum Front Panel/Steel Body Mini Tower Computer Case SG10B, Black PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 220-G2-0750-XR 80+ GOLD 750W Fully Modular Blu ray drive: HP Slot-load Blu-ray UJ-235A Internal Slim 4X Blu-ray Burner DVD RW SATA Drive Boot drive: Plextor M6e PX-G128M6e M.2 2280 128GB PCI-Express HDD: HGST Ultrastar 7K3000 HUA723030ALA640 (0F12456) 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Sound Card: HT | OMEGA FENIX 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz OS Windows 10 Pro 64Bit
  2. Download slowing when gaming

So before i had two hard drives, i would always get upset by how my download speeds would throttle when i had a game open. this was later explained to me as probably hitting the I/O limit of a mechanical hard drive. this is acceptable, or at least understandable. but currently i'm attempting to install a game to my SATA SSD, while playing a game that's installed to my HDD. and the download has still dropped 3.5-4 MB/s. I mean, i have a Ryzen 1600, so processing power shouldn't be the issue, and the game downloading is installed through Steam while the game running is installed through the Windows store. i don't quite understand what's happening here.
  3. Windows Mirgration

Hey guys, My 2TB hard drive is almost full again, after changing to this one from a 1TB one before. What I did the first time was just reinstall windows and download all games and software again. But now with 2TB filled up I'm looking for a different way to migrate windows, so I can use it on the new bigger drive like nothing ever happend. Is there any way or any software I could use? And please nothing to complicated, I know very little about storage and what not.
  4. Hi I recently took 2 hard drives from a WD Nas one of the drives was failing and the NAS acted weirdly so i pulled the plug that was a fey months/years ago, The drives are in the device manager and are detected by diskmgmt and Partition wizard but not in My computer. When the drives were in the nas they were configure as clones of each other (i dont know what raid that is and i dont want to get it wrong), Each of them have 4 partitions on them and 3 of the šartitions are 4 gb or smaller and the last one is 1.8 TB, I would like to KEEP THE DATA on them because its over 20 years of our family photos on them. Feel free to post any further questions i will be answering them quickly in the next 2 hours THANK YOU Patrik
  5. Hi guys, This may be a dumb question but i read somewhere that my motherboard can only handle 3tb or storage. Generally, do motherboards limit the amount of storage you can have and if so how? Please bear in mind that I don't mean the limitation of sata slots or anything like that. What i mean is if i have 2.5tb and my motherboard can only handle 3tb, supposedly, could i install another tb? Thanks for your help guys, -Alex.
  6. I have a ubuntu server set up and I have my Webmin reporting a hard drive with errors (My ups failed during a transfer and brownout) I want to scrub the drive and fix the sectors will that errors go away? Please help I am currently scrubbing now.
  7. I recently killed three hard drives with a new (to me) power supply. The new one is this older Antec 850w, 80+ bronze. I'm no longer that heart broken over losing a bunch of data, so I've at least been trying to figure out what I did wrong or what was wrong with the power supply. I can't find many other people in the same position on the Internet, and all the responses are varied. I plugged the hard drives and an SSD in after testing the power supply elsewhere first to make sure it functioned properly and wouldn't straight kill everything; I figured I could trust it in my computer. However, within a few hours, I was sure the hard drives were totally dead every since that initial instance. The SSD still operates as normal though. I've built a few computers through the years, so I don't think I was doing anything fundamentally wrong. I've also never heard anyone warn about something like this. I thought SATA was a standard so this wouldn't be a concern. I guess they received the totally wrong voltages? Were the voltages switched somehow, 5v and 12v in opposite places? Could a bad power supply do this and simply not affect the rest of the system? If you have any opinion, dropping a note would be great. Thanks
  8. Hay I Have some Fibre Channel hard drives and i need to find a controler solution to use theme what is the cheapest way to controlle them i have about 10 drives
  9. https://youtu.be/JKYf4XVO2_0 I woke up to this annoying sound this morning. So I turned off my computer and went back to bed. When I booted up my PC later, the drive was still making that sound and none of my computers have been able to mount the drive. Can someone please advise me on what I can do to either get it working again or recover the data?
  10. I really need some help... I've gotten a new Toshiba 6TB internal HDD as a christmas present, which is great 'cause I'm running out of storage space. But after I've connected it to my motherboard, I went into Disk Management (or whatever it's called in English) and tried to initialize it I got the following message: "The specified disk is not convertible because the size is less than the minimum size required for GPT disks". If I try to select MBR instead I get the message: "The specified file was not found" (translated from Danish). I've tried switching out the SATA-cable and plugging the cable into other ports in my motherboard, but this doesn't help. Is there any was to fix this or do I have to return the HDD for a new one? Any help, or attempt thereof, would be incredibly appreciated. Specs: Motherboard: Asus Z170-A CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.50Hz GPU: Gainward Geforce GTX 1060 6GB RAM: 2x Corsair DDR4 8GB (can't remember Hz or specific types) HD: Kingston SSD about 250GB (mostly used for the OS) & some generic 1TB HDD (for storage)
  11. When ever I ask people, What is the best data recovery tool, I get a different answer each time. I keep trying people suggestions, but I always find problems with them. There have been countless number of times that I have had a dying hard drive from a friend or client and try and recover data from it. I have tried Easeus Data recovery, and that works great when it does works, It won't work if a drive gets disconnected part way through, and doesn't work when the partition table is missing. I also don't like its interface, doesn't feel like a professional tool. I have tried Piriform Recuva, and that is ok, But takes a ridiculous amount of time. 40 hours is what It took to recover from a 500Gb WD Blue drive. Just one drive!. Some files that it recovers it does not recover properly. I even tried this with a perfectly working drive and it still managed to mess up recovering a powerpoint file lol. I have tried Zero Assumption Data Recovery and I had some hilarious problems trying to get it read the drive. I notice that all these tools are very much windows tools, What are the industry standards for this sort of thing. Are their any bootable linux ones that I should be using? I guess the free ones are all crap. Is it just me, or do all these tools suck, and suck in different ways. Am I just using them wrong, using the wrong tools in the first place. Or are my drives just too dead for these tools to work with. I want to here from the people who work for a business and actually have some experience in recovering data from a dead hard drive. What software do the actual data recovery experts use, I know some will use their own stuff, but What off the shelf stuff can I use that isn't as bad as the ones that I have already tried. I really just want something that can read everything at a bit level, I wanted to use clonezilla but that freaks out the second it hits a bad sector. So far the only thing I can do is wait the 40 hours that recuva demands.
  12. hay toghter i found this and i wondert if you can use the with sata or sas? i dont ne the cage of it. https://servershop24.de/komponenten/festplatten/fibre-channel/fuijtsu-eternus-dx8700-450-gb-15k-fc-3-5-hot-swap-festplatte-ca06600-e465/a-113803/

  15. Upgrading my PC

Hello, While upgrading my PC, I came upon the old 500GB 2.5" HDD that I used in my old Macbook (with OS X Snow Leopard in it) and was wondering if I could use it in my PC to upgrade from 500GB to 1TB. I know that I may have to format it or something, but is there another way I could "dual-boot" Mac OS from Windows? I know it is a SATA drive and that I have mounts for a 2.5" drive
  16. I have a very old pc and I cant get into the operating system but the problem is that I a trying to get the data from it and it has three drives which show up as two and I am pretty sure it is a software raid 0 within windows because of the message I got from Ubuntu, Ubuntu was not installed, I just ran it from a usb stick, when I plugged one of them into another pc, I will ling an image of the message below, and I am wondering if there is any way of restoring the data, Thanks. P.s. If you are looking at the picture it has only two of the drives show up but that is because I didn't have the third one plugged in.
  17. Hello to anyone reading this I am currently using a raspberry pi and old hard drive as a nas solution for a media / back up server. I'm mainly wondering if It is possible to make a raid setup with different drive sizes / speeds. Cost is a large concern and I'm looking to buy a larger hard drive now and another one to match it a little later down the line. Thanks for feedback !

  19. So here was my setup. Cdrive: ssd. Ddrive: storage Edrive: storage Fdrive: storage Here is what happened:1 day ago my F drive was making noises. Some games installed on it were laggy and not running properly. I replace drive with a new drive, also named F. Here is when the problems started: Apparently 1 hour ago when i was restarting, the windows update (15% complete) popped up. It restarted, and the Windows 8 installer popped up... It couldnt locate my boot drive apparently, so I unplugged all my drives except for C drive. Restarted, same thing. Win8 bootloader, even with ssd as priority boot. Shows 2 uefi boot options "locked" and my ssd. Here is what im doing: Making a winmediacreation usb drive to hopefully sort this out. But has anyone ran into this/know what could have caused it?
  20. Hey everyone. I had an idea. I want to put more storage on my PC. and i'm wondering if storing games on a hard drive will effect performance or not. I use an SSD as a boot drive and was just considering this new setup. if it works that is.
  21. I have only had 2.5 inch hard drives and SSDs. I recently got a 3.5 inch HDD and whenever I write/read from it, it's so loud and I feel the vibrations on my PC case. However, when I took it out the HDD and wrote it, there were no vibrations nor noise coming from the hard drive and my PC was dead silent.
  22. When connecting the SATA cable into the drive, this happened [see photo for reference]. I've nothing small enough to pinch the pins into place, is it still revivable? I have some important data on it.
  23. So just yesterday I got my parts in for my new computer and started building. I bought an ssd, but not a hard drive, because I was going to reuse the hard drive from my old computer. I wanted to make the ssd the boot drive for the new computer, so I factory reset the hard drive, and plugged the ssd into my old computer, and cloned windows to the ssd. I then moved the ssd to the new computer, and it booted from the ssd. My plan was to then move the hard drive over to the new computer, and then format it on there (pretty sure that's what I have to do to wipe windows off the drive). However whenever I plug in the hard drive, it will not boot off of the ssd, and it won't even detect the ssd in file explorer. I went into the bios and changed the boot priorities, to have the first boot option be the ssd. And when I go to save and exit, it says that I haven't made any changes to the bios settings. And even when I do a boot override to the ssd, it still boots to the hard drive. Does anyone know what I'm doing/did wrong?
  24. Hi, I took out my drives when I was diagnosing my computer, plugging only my 960gb boot ssd back in when I reinstalled everything into my computer. Now, when I need to use my dvd and hard drive, Windows is not recognizing either at all in disk management, my computer, and device manager any help is appreciated.
