  1. Hey people, I've been stuck on the dreaded H81 chipset with no hopes of an upgrade for a little bit, now that I have money I am unable to find a reliable or trustworthy place to buy an LGA1150 motherboard on an overclockable chipset. Any pointers in the right direction would be hugely appreciated. Thanks, Mexxi

  4. I am building systems for my GF and me. Ive had a B150 PRO GAMING D3 lying arround for a while and i was planing on useing it for her system. I got confused when i saw on the back, that it is only compatible with DDR3 RAM. From the ASUS website i learned, taht it is compatible with 6th gen Intel CPUs (witch i thought only worked with DDR4 but I might be wrong on that). Is this DDR3 board compatible with 7th gen CPUs and if yes does it make sense to use it in that way?
  5. Hi there guys, Posting on behalf of a friend, as (surprise, surprise), their PC isn't booting. Let me give you a rundown on what's happening, and we can go from there! TLDR version in the spoiler section at the bottom! So, Let's start with specs: MoBo: MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ CPU: Fx 8350 Cooler: 212 Evo GPU R9 270x (also tested an old HD 6870) RAM: 2x4 GB of Generic DDR3 @ 1600 MHz + 1x 8GB of Kingston Fury @ 1600MHz (Never had an issue before, also tried with just the 1x8 Kingston stick) PSU: OCZ ZT 750 W Storage (the friend didn't provide, but I believe): 256 GB Sandisk SSD (Boot drive) + WD Blue 1.5 TB HDD. OS: Win 10 Pro x64 BIOS Version: Unknown. Can't POST to find out! Now, here's what happened: The PC was running fine, until the GPU was taken out, and put into another rig. It worked A-OK in the other rig. Put it back into this one, and it refuses to boot. It won't POST. The GPU fans spin up, before turning off, and this loops until power is cut. The CPU fan is constant. No beep code and no onboard diagnostic display to check either, unfortunately (see attached video for fan behavior). Trying the GPU in another machine - no problem. Boots first time. Put it back in this rig, it fails to POST. We then tried with an old HD 6870.... It POSTed!... once. It now refuses to POST again. Taking all of the RAM sticks out of the MoBo and attempting to boot leads to the MoBo chucking out a no-RAM error, so that's a good sign it is at least trying to go through the "POST checklist". After taking a close look, it seems there is some residue on the left side of the top PCI-E slot, starting near the integrated heatsink. An initial inspection shows nothing like a blown/leaking capacitor, but there is no multimeter on hand to accurately check this currently. It appears to be coming from around the heatsink but doesn't quite seem as if it underneath it. Photo: My friend took a feel of the liquid, and he described it as a rather tacky liquid which was odorless (don't worry. I advised he should wash his hands as it could well be electrolytic fluid). So! Although it seems rather likely this is a blown/leaking capacitor, please let me know what you guys think is up, and any recommendations (above buying a new board) that might help? The thing that threw us off was the 1 random POST with a different GPU. Finally, the board isn't that old, so I would be rather surprised if a capacitor already. TLDR version: Thanks for your time! video-1515871270.mp4
  6. Hi guys, This may be a dumb question but i read somewhere that my motherboard can only handle 3tb or storage. Generally, do motherboards limit the amount of storage you can have and if so how? Please bear in mind that I don't mean the limitation of sata slots or anything like that. What i mean is if i have 2.5tb and my motherboard can only handle 3tb, supposedly, could i install another tb? Thanks for your help guys, -Alex.

  10. I am terrible with computer parts and am wanting to know it i can swap my current CPU (i5 6400) with an i7 7700k without changing my motherboard. I know i cannot use the new coffee lake in my motherboard but nobody said anything about skylake. My motherboard is the ROG B150 Pro Gaming
  11. Motherboard dead?

Asus Maximus Hero VII I7 4790K @ 4Ghz 16GB DDR3 2133Mhz Nvidia GTX980 So I was plugging in a fan while the system was still running (Idiot right?), and as I attempted to plug it in the whole system just shut off. Pushing the power button or the start button on the motherboard itself didn‘t do a thing. Just the red ROG lightning lights up when I switch on the power supply (pic). Tried several things: -Shut off the power supply several times for a couple of minutes. -Removed the CMOS battery for half an hour and put it back in. -I tried another power supply, still just the ROG lightning comes on after switching the PS on. -Removed everything plugged into the Mb, looked for bent pins, removed the Mb and put it on a box with just the 24 and 8 pin plugged in. Still the same. ...as i recall the Start button on the motherboard was allways lit up just as the ROG lights, but now it doesn‘t. So is there any chance that I didn‘t kill my MB or is all hope lost?
  12. I just got a new motherboard (b350 tomahawk), cpu(and ryzen 1200), and 2 8gb ddr4 ram. 17. Ok guys. A friend of mine recently bought and built his own PC with my help and wants to try overclocking. First off, specs. Ryzen 5 1600X ASRock B350 itx/ac G.Skill Aegis DDR4-3000 (16GBs) GTX 1070 500W PSU aaand other stuff His PC booted up just fine... everything worked until we enabled either XMP-Profiling or overclocked his 1600X. To be fair, his processor is "only" running at 3.8Ghz and we wanted to try to get the RAM to 3200Mhz. BUT As soon as we restarted from the BIOS, the PC would boot loop 3-6 times No idea why, after that it starts just fine. Also, I set his 1600X to 3.825Mhz at 1.3375V and in CPU-Z this shows up: Any ideas on how to fix either of those oddities?
  18. Hello, I just upgraded my pc. I bought new ram and a proccesor. The processor works fine. But I have an issue with my ram. When I start my pc up with my new ram i don't get a boot screen. 20. I recently finished updated my main rig, and i'm now just experiencing some weird issues only a day later. I just had these random crashes with a black screen, and the computer became unresponsive. I've had to reset it each time but it seems to reoccur from time to time. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to get more information on what happened and maybe I can get some help. Thanks! System Specs: EVGA sc 980ti acx2.0 Asus Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Intel Core i7 8700K Samsung 850 SSD 256gb Windows 10 64bit Noctua NHU12S EVGA Supernova 750w psu 80+ gold
  21. I have an Asus b150m-a motherboard and I recently got an I5 6500k CPU. When I went to upgrade I realized that my motherboard stock doesn't support 7th gen but with a bios update it could support it, long story short I tried to update my Intel graphics drivers and then tried to update the mobo bios through EZflash and a USB. However, when I was in the Ezflash UI it would recognize the flash drive I was using to hold the update but it wouldn't recognize it as an executable file. Open to any and all suggestions and as a semi-new PC user, it is my first time updating drivers and stuff like that so the possibility of a mistake is high. Open to any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance for the help.

  23. I have the cheapest z270 board, the gigabyte hd3p. It has a 4+3 phase VRM, just like most lowend z270 boards. The uefi of this board doesn't quite work either. I'm looking to buy something more stable and reliable. I'm looking at ATX boards which are cheaper than the Asrock Taichi: Asus Strix z270-F, Prime z270-A Asrock z270 Extreme 4 (, z270 Taichi) MSI 270 Gaming Pro Carbon, Krait, Gaming M3, Gaming M5, SLI Plus I feel like the taichi would be overkill. The system is for gaming, and all I want is a reliable 24/7 overclock, nothing extreme (240 EKWB radiator, delidded 7700k with liquid metal, so the motherboard is the limiting factor). My current gigabyte board is very unstable when it comes to voltage regulation. I'd like to get some insight mainly on the listed boards' uefi quality and vrm design. If you may have some experience with any of these, please do share them. I like the Asus Prime A because it seems to be a down-to-earth, "stability and reliability over everything" kinda deal. Is it really rock solid? The Asrock Extreme 4 is appealing to me because it has the highest number of phases, though I suspect its 8+4 is actually a 4+2 doubled up, or a 4*2 + 4. That would be worse than the 6+2*2 on the others (assuming that those don't have doublers in the vcore vrm).
  24. So I just completed my nice pc, I was going to connect to the internet and saw that it only could use ethernet? Does this mean my 200$ mobo doesnt support wireless network? All drivers are up to date
  25. So after lots of hours wasted in searching the internet, I still couldn't get a defenitive answer for my gaming needs. I'm building a new pc and the config is the following: I5-8600k GPU - NOT DECIDED Trident Z RGB - 8GB*2 3200mhz Seagate Baracudda - 3tb Samsung 850 evo - 250gb Cooler master masterbox lite 5 rgb Motherboard - Asus Z370E or Z370F or Gigabyte Z370 Ultra Gaming Corsair Rm650x PSU Noctua U12-S or H115i pro So mainly my concern is the gpu. Is GTX 1080 enough for 1080p 144fps and 4k 30fps. For 1080p 144fps I am buying the samsung c24fg70 VA 1080p 144hz 1ms monitor and for the 4k, I'm using my LG Nanocell SJ80 TV, which is one of the best tv for gaming. As for the games I play in 1080p, mostly I would play Rainbow Six Siege, CS:GO, Rocket League, NFS series, DIRT series, PUBG and sometimes other AAA titles like Deus Ex series, DOOM (2016), Sniper Elite Series and other games like that. I would mostly prefer ultra but I won't mind to reduce the settings to high and sacfrice some anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing. And for 4k whatever works is enough so no concern about it. So is the GTX 1080 enough for this??? AND as you might have seen in the list, which motherboard is the best? I want to pick a board between these options only, please. And for the RAM is there any noticeable difference between 3000mhz and 3200mhz.
