Is IPS glow bad for the monitor?

Recommended Posts

I've heard about stuff about 'Burn in' where you display the same picture for a long time so it becomes permanent, so I was wondering if IPS glow gets worse if I don't light up the edges of the screen with something?

I know it might sound like a dumb question, but I just wanna be sure. :)

IPS glow is inherent to IPS tech.

It shouldn't damage your monitor due to how it works.

I've owned many different IPS displays. I don't think they've ever been damaged by IPS glow.

Granted, my current main monitor is a Twisted Nematic, but still...

Nope! That's just how IPS works. Its just "light bleed" basically xD

As a side note - burn-in occurs only on OLED from what I have heard.

LCD's don't burn in, but they can exhibit image retention. But that's usually fixable.

Yeah I know, but the question is whether or not the IPS glow would get worse by not lighting up the edges of the screen

If it helps you sleep better at night, most LED backlit monitors are edge lit anyway.

(though they only light up from one side and use a diffuser to spread it out)
