If you allow Google access to your microphone, then it will use it. This has been known for awhile. You can even listen to audio recordings of your voice.

So he's talking with the browser closed, meaning Google wouldn't even be able to activate the microphone.  If anyone was listening, it was Cortana.

Chrome stays running in the background since.. Idr actually, but it never fully closes

I don't have a mic connected at all times, so I'm not worried.

wasn't there some tinfoil theories that idle speakers could be used to listen in? o_o

You can use a speaker as a microphone, but idk how effective that actually is. Ive never seen it in practice.

It must be really noisy. If youre worried, try creating a ground loop. It would be pretty hard to hear over a ground loop.

I usually leave my internet unplugged, unless im using it. My phone is just unavoidable. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_government_mass_surveillance_projects

Theres known surveillance programs.

I have my microphone unplugged too, but if someone really wants to listen to my conversations they can just tap into my phone's mic and get it from there. I even went as far as putting my phone in a dark drawer somewhere, but I don't think that's gonna help much.

A dark drawer won't do much indeed.  A fridge is much better.  But ideally you'd get a phone that can be trusted.

The old Nokias (3210, 3310, 5110 etc) are basically hack-proof.  Good luck remotely turning on the mic on a phone that doesn't have any data connectivity at all.

or just put my stuff in an unplugged microwave?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

naah.. I'm not really one of those people who get paranoid because the government is listening to my sex talk. I don't really mind it myself, but I'd understand it LOL. Hell, I don't even trust my front-facing cam on my phone....

I do have a friend who's paranoid as fuck. He thinks there are recording chips inside keyboard or other stuff that people don't expect them to be hidden in. w/e LOL. It's fun stuff.
